Heroes

Ever since I took up the cause of child protection, now over two years ago, I and the two organization I have estabished in Beit Shemesh, have been regularly targeted for intimidation, cherem and verbal assault.

On the other hand, many good people have been supportive - and this gives me and the dedicated teams at Lema'an Achai and Magen tremendous chizuk (encouragement).

Two recent article, in the Jewish Press and on Harry Maryles' "Emes Ve'emunah" blog are particulary postitive.

Though I do not consider myself heroic - I do consider the people who run Lema'an Achai and Magen to be totally remarkable, dedicated, talented, and selfless. In short, heroes.

  1. Yes, you volunteers for Magen are all heroes. The community should thank you for helping to keep the children safe. Thank you Magen.

  2. I am a social worker living in the area. I find it not a coincidence that there is a new "child protection" organization called Ma'aneh that claims to do everything that Magen does.

What is most interesting is that this organization is headed by he same Rabbi Eidensohn that heads the Kupa Shel Tzedaka, the main rivalry to Lema'an Achai and that it's rabbis are the same rabbis that have condemned David Morris, Lema'an Achai and Magen in the past..

In all honesty I find this most troubling and it could seem to be less than sincere on the part of the Ma'aneh people.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. Magen is doing an amazing job for awareness and protection so why open another organization and further drain community resources?

  3. For years, even decades, the chareidi rabbis tried to persuade their communities that the rabbis are "dealing with" child abuse effectively. If it were to exist at all.

However, with Magen's success, in spite of those rabbinical protestations, these rabbis are now feeling the heat.

For those rabbis, the main issue here is not child safety, but rabbinical authority.

By establshing a copy-cat organization, these rabbis believe they can now re-establish some credibility.

And when it comes to protecting rabbinical authority, no waste of the public resources is too much.

However, any idiot could realise the short-sightedness of having the cats guarding the milk.

The same people who need to protect their schools, shuls and institutions have a clear conflict of interests in now exposing pedophiles operating (for years, under their noses) in these same schools, shuls and institutions.
