Is Lag BaOmer Out of Control?
As every kid knows, Lag B'Omer is a celebration on the 33 rd day of the counting of the Omer. This marks the last day of the plague which wiped out 22,000 pupils of Rabbi Akiva. Lag B'Omer is also the anniversary of the death of R.Shimon Bar Yochai, the author of the Zohar and 'father' of Jewish Mysticism. Rabbi Shimon was the leading (surviving) student of Rabbi Akiva, and was an oft-quoted Tannaic leader, being the fourth most quoted voice in the Mishna. Here in Israel , Lag B'Omer is most popularly celebrated by the lighting of bonfires as well as joining the throngs making the pilgrimage to Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai's tomb in Meron in the Galilee . In recent times, the bonfire lighting tradition has also spread to the Diaspora. At this point, all seems well and healthy about Lag B'Omer – good clean fun. You can call me a kill-joy, but unfortunately there is a dark and less happy side to the Lag B'Omer festivities... In my o...
Hoax Letter Sent to Synagogue
(Beis Tefillah Synagogue, Ramat Beit Shemesh) The following hoax letter has been sent to members of the Beis Tefillah Synagogue board of management, as if it was written by Rabbi CM [ed. name respectfully withheld] who serves as their rabbi: I think that as long as David Morris sets policy for L.A [ed. Lema'an Achai ], and is their public face, I will not allow L.A. to use the Shul for fundraising purposes. This will change if: 1)David M apologizes publicly for stating, and insinuating again and again(in many forums, but especially in his childish Tzedek Tzedek blog) that , as a group , "Rabbis" (of RBSA ) are guilty of aiding and abetting and enabling child molesters.(And that of course that leaves LA to come to the rescue of our children.) OR IF 2)LA publicly , clearly, and unambiguously disavows such statements .They must say--we clearly, and unambiguously ,disavow statements or...
I saw the news about it on tv and how the Arabs were screaming and cursing. Why weren't they arrested?
ReplyDeleteDo you think it is smart to "sound off" The world does't understand what is going on here 'All she is doing is creating much more hatred for Jews around the world, something we certainly don't need . She sounds like an Arab, stooping down to their level, completely disrespecting others. This is not what Hashem wants. As it says in Pirkei Avot
ReplyDeleteולא מצאתי לגוף. טוב אלא שתיקה
Just because things are true, doesn't mean they have to be said out loud.
Her ranting against Mohammed has now gone viral, and people now put us in the same category as Arabs-- Congratulations !!
I can't speak on behalf of my daughter in law, Aviya. She has shown over the past few days in the public spotlight, she is quite able to speak for herself!
ReplyDeleteAnonymous - on the one hand you seem to agree with Avia's statement ("just because things are true..."). However, you disagree with that she said such an insulting and provocative thing out loud ("sounding off"). However, you do this by publicly & provocatively insulting Avia - "she sounds like an Arab...etc". Isn't this a case of the pot calling the kettle black?
ReplyDeletePoint well taken . However I don't think however that my comments will add more hatred towards Jews . I have G"F nothing against Aviya and I'm sure she is a fine young lady and a wonderful Jew and she certainly has very strong feelings towards her Judaism and Eretz Yisrael which is exceptional . But one must be very careful with things said in public, especially when they affect others. That was my point. And kudos to Mr. Morris who is not afraid print something negative I apologize if I offended anyone especially Aviya
