Important Announcement: Demonstration Wednesday!!

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT BY RABBI DOV LIPMAN

Dear Friends,
On Wednesday, the city council is voting for the 2011 budget.  The budget includes hundreds of thousands of shekalim for worthy chesed organizations but zero money for Lemaan Achai because extremist elements have instructed the Mayor not to give Lemaan Achai money.  Lemaan Achai provides all the social welfare services for Ramat Bet Shemesh including social workers to the point that the city's welfare department simply refers everyone in RBS to Lemaan Achai and the city does not have to expend resources there.  The city's welfare department is receiving 46 million NIS in the budget and not one shekel of it is set aside for Lemaan Achai.  We are protesting this injustice and the Mayor's caving to the demands of extremists elements this coming Wednesday at 5:00p.m. at City Hall.  Please come and join us at this very important event.   Thanks, Dov Lipman

Well done Dov for taking this initiative.

Lema'an Achai has been taken for granted for far too long in Bet Shemesh!

Politics or no politics, the time has come for Lema'an Achai to receive its fair allocation of the Iriya budget.

  3. I am disgusted that the council is beating up on Lema'an Achai.

What is happening to our city?!!

  4. It is simply untrue "that the city's welfare department simply refers everyone in RBS to Lemaan Achai"

  5. They may or may not refer people, I don't know.

I do know however that Lema'an Achai does do much of the welfare dept's work in RBSA.

In any case why do you care, muon, if the city helps Lema'an Achai? They help enough other organizations that aren't put into cherem by rabid detractors.

  6. Of course Lema'an Achai deserves money from the city. What bothers me is using false information to convince people to protest. My family lives in RBS-A and has received significant help from the city's welfare department. They have never mentioned referring us to Lemaan Achai.

Stating that "that the city's welfare department simply refers everyone in RBS to Lemaan Achai" is false.

  7. Muon - Thank you for your observation.

Lema'an Achai hosted Mrs Iris Tzur, Head of Welfare in Bet Shemesh, last week.

Iris told us (for the umpteenth time) that the social workers in the Bet Shemesh Social Services refer to Lema'an Achai as "the social services dept of RBS".

So, as a generality it is true that Lema'an Achai is doing the work of the municipal social services.

On the other hand, there are specific cases which MUST be handled, according to the Law, by the Social Services, for example, cases of violence, abuse, drugs, suicide, etc, where the law itself requires these cases be handled by the legally mandated authorities.

On the other hand, there are numerous services and programs which Lema'an Achai provides, which the municipal social services do not or even can not.

So, you have a point Muon that the expression "simply refers everyone in RBS to Lemaan Achai" is not wholly accurate, but it is a reasonable summary.
